Bird Castle
The Bird Castle Symphonic Orchestra

March 2013

The stage is 41 meters wide and 23 meters long. Then there is stage-wide 4 meter long balcony in the back. All instruments have at least 2 additional players in the layout. ( When compared to the current maximum ) In real life the sides of the stage have more unused space than in the picture. Tuba's are missing from the picture, they are on the sides, after Trombones. Right beside the Contra Basses. Two tubas on both sides.

The orchestra's main stage is in Ball room. In everyday use Ball room can serve 500 dancers at the time. The dance floor is dimensioned for 250 couples. The restaurant for 500 guests surrounds the dance floor. It is open to the actual Ball hall. The Ball Hall is biggest hall in the bird castle. The Dance Floor gets couples also from the Casino and Throne Room. They are also restaurant like rooms, located in the Throne Tower.

In the picture there is a pathway in the center for the conductor and singers. Boys and popular musicians always enter the stage dramatically. Dramatic beginning improves listening experience.

The modest entrance was the first thing we noticed, when we watched footage from the live performances of the classical music. Singers and conductors crept to the stage without further notice. Came to the podium from almost nothing.

When the stage was designed, the entrance and pathway was in talks for quite a long time. It takes quite a lot of space, and it is used only twice. Eventually pathway was included to the standard layout and the stage was widened 5 meters.

Bird Castle Symphonic Orchestra - layout.

The layout is stereophonic layout. There are always players on both sides of the stage. In principal it is a stereophonic layout. With even number of players on both sides. When you have players on both sides, you can balance the weight of the sound between the sides. All you have to do, is to move one player from the right side to the left side.

In the amphitheatre orchestra is hiding under the theatre stage.  In the ball room stage, there is a stage-wide balcony in the back. For chorus, and possibly for Harps and Ghost boxes.

The horns are placed differently from the common layout. They are placed so, that they create a corridor to the center. The new location follows one common usage of the horns. Horns are always used in fanfares.

From the common layout the visibility of the sounds is left almost unchanged. The sound of the instruments which play high tones, stops to the player who plays in front of you. If there is thick wall of players in front of the high tone instrument, the sound stops to the wall. In speaker systems the bass speaker is always the lowest element, from the same reason.

In the back, before the chorus there is a free area for drums and other percussive instruments. Under the balcony there is an additional row for percussive instruments. When accompanying Boys, drums must be in the middle. Ghost Drums and Common Drum Kits rather far from each other.

We have some plans for creating unique looks for Boys primary instruments, Ghost Box, Pulsing Pad, Brightness and Ice Rain. Although they are technically the same.

In classical plays the instruments needs their own amplifier and speaker systems. In classical music you do not have general use amplifier speaker systems.

All stages which are big enough for full sized orchestras, have an orchestra, which uses the stage. So the orchestra for this stage was named as The Bird Castle Symphonic orchestra. It is a design time project name for the virtual, design-time orchestra.

The stage is actually Boys' home stage, but Boys' wanted that their stage is big enough for full sized symphonic orchestra. When orchestra accompanies Boys, it pushed 4 meters back, so that boys have the front for themselves. So that the percussion row is under the balcony.
